OpenFile stores files in a document repository or document management system (DMS). All files within the DMS are wrapped by meta-data or profile information. Profile information allows the user to add important details about a file, enabling users to manage their documents more effectively. Full version control is managed and all versions can be retained and accessed if required. OpenFile provides a hands off approach to the storage area for all documents reducing the cost of administration and ownership. Multiple sites with multiple storage libraries can be maintained around multiple locations for a scalable national solution. SharePoint Option OpenFile has a SharePoint document library storage option. All documents being checked in and out of the DMS can be stored and referenced via the normal SharePoint environment. This is not a requirement of the DMS as the default system can be used as a standalone DMS without any SharePoint services.
